Hailing from the beautiful state of Tennessee in the southern United States, I first had the pleasure of discovering Menthon-Saint-Bernard in 2023 when I began work as an English teaching assistant in local primary schools. After two splendid years working with young learners in Annecy, I am grateful to now be living permanently in Menthon and working as an independent language teacher!
I completed my bachelor’s with a double-major in French and English Literature and a minor in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at Lee University in Tennessee. During my training in TESOL, I taught community English classes to adults who had recently arrived in the United States. After my bachelor’s, I completed a master’s in French at Indiana University. While completing my studies in francophone literature and cinema, I taught beginner, intermediate, and advanced French courses as an Associate Instructor at the university.
In 2022, I started working as a camp counselor and high school credit teacher at Lac du Bois, a French immersion summer camp in the north woods of Minnesota. I worked three summers there, and my pedagogy has been greatly influenced by the Lac du Bois community’s spirit of creativity and fun, as well as its emphasis on outdoor learning.
In my teaching these days, I adopt an individualized approach for each student based on their personality, learning style, and needs; I love integrating music, kinesthetic learning, and games into my teaching, all while using authentic texts in French or in English. I enjoy sharing my native language and culture with my students, but I’m likewise passionate about teaching French as a foreign language to other internationals like myself.
